Knitters come to rescue of orphan wildlife

-

HUNDREDS of Britons have knitted life-saving pouches, jumpers and mittens to help animals injured and orphaned in the Australian wildfires.

Mum of two Katie Mairis, 40, asked people via social media in her hometown of Warminster, Wiltshire, to knit pouches for joeys but within a few days her plea went viral and she was inundated.

Katie, who runs knit shop Yarn for the Soul, said: “These days not many people have disposable cash but they still want to help others.”

She is now asking knitters to create nests and jumpers for the animals as there are plenty of pouches already.
