Family’s frantic plea over missing Melita

-

THE family of missing woman Melita Hachey have told of their “living nightmare” a week after she vanished in the Borders.

They issued a frantic appeal for the 30-year-old to get in touch with them yesterday.

They said: “The last week has been a living nightmare. We just want Melita to be with her family, safe.

“Melita, if you are reading this, we need you to know how deeply loved you are, we are lost without you and desperately need you back with us.

“Nothing matters more than that and our arms are

BY SARAH VESTY open waiting for you to be with us.”

Melita was last seen in Livingstone Place, Galashiels, on the afternoon of last Friday.

She was reported missing by worried neighbours the next morning, prompting a police search.

A coastguard helicopter, Borders water rescue team, Tweed Valley mountain rescue and the Border search and rescue unit have all been drafted in during the last week.

They scoured the banks of the River Tweed but were forced to stand down due to high water levels. A specialist drone was also called in by police to scour the land near Paxton House by the river.

Investigators believe Melita may have travelled to the Leaderfoot area via Gattonside or Melrose and are asking motorists who may have been in the area to get in touch.

Melita is white, about 5ft 5in, of slim build and with shoulder-length brown hair styled in a bob.

She was last seen wearing a dark parka-style jacket with a fur trimmed hood, blue jeans and white trainers.

Those with information should contact officers at Galashiels police station via 101.
