Tour of beauty

The sun-drenched Spanish city has a fascinating history that’s well worth exploring on foot, Segway or riverboat

Alfonso XIII, which was built in 1929 specifically to host international dignitaries for the Ibero-American exhibition and is today recognised as a symbol of the city.

We had a fabulous lunch at the San Fernando restaurant which is housed in the hotel.

There were three courses, one more delicious than the next, in a luxurious setting.

Full up, we headed to the trendy Triana area for a Segway tour taking in many of the local sights.

There’s lots to see in Triana but it’s most famous for its ceramics and the area houses the Centro

Ceramica Triana (the Triana Ceramics Centre). The Triana market is a sight to behold.

Frequented by locals, here you will experience the atmosphere of a typical Seville market and have the opportunity to purchase some of the finest local produce.

After working up an appetite, our evening meal was at Restaurante la Quinta, a quaint little place that was full of locals so we knew the food would be excellent.

The following day, we took a boat cruise on the “Pigafetta”.

It was an overcast day, therefore this was the best option, and it was lovely to get an overview of all the fascinating buildings on either side of the Guadalquivir river.

Seville’s cityscape is certainly quite beautiful.

And after another delicious lunch of tapas, we decided to spend the rest of the afternoon indulging in some retail therapy.

And where better to shop than in Seville, where you can find some top-end designers.

We had an evening of flamenco dancing planned and got in the mood with a guided tour around the Flamenco Dance Museum which is housed in an 18th-century building. The museum pays homage to the origins and evolution of flamenco, its different categories and the main artists. Then it was time for our lesson. Flamenco is surprisingly difficult to master and an hourlong lesson is just enough time to pick up some very basic steps. After the lesson, we were treated to a performance by the professionals. It was outstanding, and their passion for dance was evident. Seville, we will be back.
