Getting away with MURDER
Evil Andrew Earlham was found dead on the marshes at the end of series one. Now, as Liar returns, the question on everyone’s lips is whodunnit?
Not since ITV’s phenomenal first series of Broadchurch has a murder mystery truly gripped the nation.
But we predict that’s about to change with the return of ITV’s Liar, which stars Joanne Frogatt and Ioan Gruffudd.
Back in 2017, the show had our hearts in our mouths when it was revealed that charismatic Dr Andrew Earlham (Gruffudd) was actually a manipulative sexual predator who had raped teacher Laura Nielson (Froggatt) using a vial of undetected drug GHB.
As Laura set out to bring her attacker down, she discovered she wasn’t alone. The dad-of-one had at least 19 other victims and had kept tapes of all of his crimes – crucial evidence that Laura quickly turned over to the cops.
But it was the cliffhanger conclusion that left viewers audibly gasping. Three weeks after became a wanted man, everyone presumed Andrew was on the run. However, as the camera panned out, his lifeless body appeared on our screens, lying in the Kent marshes with his throat slit.
Now, as the series returns for its second instalment, the big question that will be asked at water coolers up and down the country is…‘who killed Andrew Earlham?’
Through a mixture of present day and flashbacks, we’ll be given crucial clues, as out of town detective Karen Renton (Katherine Kelly) is tasked with finding out what happened during the three week lead up to Andrew’s murder. There’s certainly plenty of twists and turns. Ioan said: “We see Andrew when he was on the run and his life is completely falling apart. Although this is his great demise, he doesn’t lose the manipulation tactics he has at his disposal. It’s almost like a rat trapped in a corner.”
So who killed him? We open the case file…
