STAY IN YOUR HOOSE .. UNLESS YEZ NEED SOME CHEESY PASTA

If Gary: Tank Commander gets the message, you’d hope everyone can

- BY RICK FULTON

SCOTLAND’S favourite squaddie Gary: Tank Commander is putting himself near the front line in the battle to save lives against the coronavirus.

The Fife telly star has made a video asking people to “stay in the hoose”.

His venture has the support of the Scottish Government and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, who has retweeted it.

It shows Gary, played by Greg McHugh, 40, in the dark with a smear of camouflage war paint. He then urges folk to “stay in the house”, wash their hands and keep two metres apart – “about the size of big Freaky Stevie”.

In the hilarious sketch which has been watched by thousands, Gary starts by pointing out: “We are in the middle of a battle with an invisible enemy.

“Have you ever tried to have a fight with somebody who wisnae there? Exactly. It’s really difficult.”

He tells viewers we are going to win it but they need to “stay in the hoose” unless of course it’s to go to the supermarket for the soldier’s favourite – cheesy pasta.

Gary urges people “don’t go to illegal karaoke parties” and admits he even washes his hand now but “never used to bother either.”

Greg is thrilled that he could be making a difference.

He said: “It’s been such an odd time and you do feel helpless but I’m really pleased I can add a tiny bit.

“I’m not here telling people what to do with a vast wealth of knowledge.

“I just want to hammer home a message that’s quite clear and makes sense. If it stops one person or makes someone try and stop someone else leaving the house if they shouldn’t, then I’m super happy to do that . “If you think of the doctors and nurses risking their lives and think about how much pressure they are under or going to be under, the least we can do is ‘stay in the hoose’.” The Scot, left, who has had three projects postponed by the virus, added: “Even Corporal McLintoch, who isn’t the sharpest tool in the box, acknowledges that this staying in your homes is something that needs to be done. If Gary gets it you’d hope the whole nation would.”
