Pensioner tells of hell on Covid-19 cruise ship

- BY JAMES MONCUR

A SCOT has told of her hell being trapped on a coronavirus cruise ship off the east coast of the US.

The pensioner from central Scotland is one of 374 Brits aboard the Coral Princess, which has just left the Caribbean for Florida.

She is confined to her cabin along with her husband on the huge liner that announced 12 positive Covid-19 cases yesterday – seven crew members and five passengers.

Texting a pal from on board, she wrote: “Not good news. We have been confined to our cabins since Tuesday as a number of passengers are presenting flu-like symptoms and captain confirmed last night some have tested positive for the virus.

“A male passenger was taken off ship in Barbados and taken to hospital. We are both being extremely diligent with hand washing and are wearing masks when we take delivery of food, fresh towels etc.

“Still trying to stay positive – don’t know what will happen now when we get to Fort Lauderdale. Hope you are all keeping safe.”

The pair were due home 10 days ago from a trip that took in South America and the Falkland Islands.

Last night a Princess Cruises spokesman said: “Coral Princess is on her way to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with an arrival date of April 4. Princess Cruises continues to remain in contact with local officials regarding disembarkation details.

“There are 1898 people on board comprising 1020 guests and 878 crew members. Guests will continue to self-isolate in their staterooms, with all meals delivered by room service.”
