Kindness will win

Help for bereaved kids after vile robbery

- BY ANDREA LAMBROU

NO WORDS of condemnation can do justice to the scumbags who robbed Kim Lomas’s house after she died.

They ransacked the property and left her children even more bereft when they were mourning the death of their mum.

Their actions outraged a community who came together to help Sean, Shannon and Tammy.

An appeal for donations raised three times the target amount in the first day as kind hearts united to make a small difference.

The appeal’s organisers said they wanted to show there are “people out there who care”. Mission accomplished.

The touching gesture from the public will show the young siblings there are more good people out there than bad.

WELLWISHERS have given more than £1600 to three heartbroken children whose mum’s home was robbed days after she died.

Vile thieves ransacked Kim Lomas’s house, taking all her jewellery and clothes as well as her son’s PlayStation and a TV.

Kim’s mum Grace believes the “lousy, thieving scumbags” knew her daughter had died and the house was empty. Coronavirus rules meant Grace and the children –Sean, Shannon and Tammy – were the only ones allowed at Kim’s funeral yesterday.

The burglary sickened Kim’s community in East Kilbride and a charity for victims of crime has now stepped in to help the heartbroken family.

Shane Yerrell, founder of the Through the Fight Foundation, set up a JustGiving page with a £500 target but it raised more than £1600 in its first day.

Kim was found dead at an address in Edinburgh on March 25. There were no suspicious circumstances.

She left Sean, 11, and twins Shannon and Tammy, nine, who all live with their gran.

Grace said: “Kim suffered from depression and life wasn’t easy for her at times. The weans are just devastated at losing her.

“When the girls turned 18, I could have said, ‘Here’s your mammy’s necklace or a wee pair of earrings.’ But there’s no keepsakes now.”

To donate to the appeal, go to JustGiving and search for “Shane Yerrell”.

Anyone with information on the raid should call police on 101, giving reference 3646 of April 3, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
