at the service at Craigton Crematorium.

His son Paul, 39, who played for the Glasgow club, said: “It all happened so quickly.

“After he was admitted to hospital, we were told he had pneumonia in both lungs and was very ill. He then tested positive for coronavirus. Although he was poorly, we still had hope and he seemed to rally.

“But last Thursday, my sister Michelle and I got the call we were dreading.”

Pollok FC said Franny had left an “enduring legacy” in the Junior game. In a tribute, the club said: “During a long playing career as a centre-forward, Franny played for clubs in the east and west regions including Dalkeith Thistle, Camelon, Petershill, Arthurlie and, of course, Pollok.

“At Pollok, he was also match secretary from 1992 until 2019, and served as vice-president and president.

“He had many great qualities – humility, endeavour and a belief in the common good.

“A giant of a man, Franny was a friend to us all and will be dearly missed.”
