I have turned my den into a production line for visors

-

I SAVED up for a 3D printer last year, so I’ve been putting it to good use making safety visors for hospitals and health workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

I like school but it’s been nice doing my lessons at home online. My favourite subjects are sciences and maths. I’d like to be an architect or astrophysicist when I’m older. In my spare time, I like to go wakeboarding at Port Dundas but I know it’s the right thing to do staying at home to keep everybody safe.

I saw that my school, Kelvinside Academy, is making safety visors to hand out to hospitals and health workers in their NuVu Innovation School, so I got in touch with my teacher to ask if he could share the designs with me so that I could do the same.

I started experimenting making the visors in the middle of last week and by Friday I had worked out how to make them quicker.

At first, I was printing two visors in just over 14 hours but now I can print three in under seven hours. I complete them by hand with acetate and elastic ribbon.

I’ve turned my den into a production line. I’ve made about 60 visors and they’ve gone to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. One of my friends’ mum is a nurse there, so she has been able to take them into the hospital.

It was so nice, the staff took the time to send a thank you picture message to me. I wouldn’t have expected them to do that with everything else they have going on, I’m just happy that I could help and it’s giving me something to do during lockdown. I’ll definitely keep making the safety masks all the way through.
