3D-printed coral could save reef
SCIENTISTS are using 3D printers to make artificial coral in an attempt to save the Great Barrier Reef.
The natural wonder – off Queensland, Australia – has been so badly damaged by climate change, pollution and overfishing it is feared it could be completely dead by 2050.
The experts, from Cambridge University and the University of California, hope to use the artificial coral to grow the algae that provides the food and oxygen which the coral of the reef needs to survive.
