Lone whale put to sleep

-

A MINKE whale calf was put to sleep after it beached and rescuers couldn’t find its mother.

The female animal, which measured nearly 13ft, was discovered by a member of the public stranded at Pettycur Bay near Kinghorn, Fife.

Marine charity British Divers Marine Life Rescue sent medics to assist.

They checked for injuries but decided that refloating the calf without her mother wouldn’t be appropriate as it needed its mother’s milk to survive.
