CLAIMS that NHS Lanarkshire are binning donations of personal protective equipment to frontline medical staff sparked outrage online.

Workers at East Kilbride’s Hairmyres Hospital say they do not have the right equipment while bosses are throwing away donations as they do not meet safety standards.

Our readers took to Facebook to have their say.

Patricia Reilly said: “Shocking. I’m sure they could be used elsewhere.”

Robert Watson said: “Lack of proper effective PPE is inexcusable after all this time.” Derek Banks asked: “Why can’t we just not all work together and get through this?”

And Mary Wallington said: “Surely if they’re not used they could be given to others in the care system rather than being thrown away?”

But Lyn Lennox said: “They can’t use items that are not deemed fit for purpose. How many lawsuits do you think there would be afterwards from people suing the NHS for failing to protect them properly?”
