Dave: We’ll be back in business by late August
ABERDEEN chief Dave Cormack is adamant the new Premiership can kick off in August or September at the latest.
The Dons chief was part of the SPFL’s top-flight conference call meeting where club chiefs were briefed by medical experts on the Covid-19 outbreak.
SPFL officials are trying to come up with a solution for the existing campaign, with a vote scheduled for today, but Cormack is confident the pandemic will start to clear and the 2020-21 campaign will kick off without being knocked too far out of sync.
Cormack said: “I have just finished an SPFL meeting and there will be a season, whether that starts August or beginning of September, there will be a new season.”
League chiefs want the clubs from the bottom three tiers to vote on ending the season now.
But they are prepared to give the Premiership more time to come to a conclusion, with UEFA threatening European bans for any country who calls their league prematurely.
Cormack expects some clarity on that over the next couple of weeks.
He said: “The feedback from the SPFL meeting is around pulling all the data together. We had the medical doctors on board, relating to where we are and some interesting stuff around that came out.
“We would be hoping to bring it to a conclusion over where we will be for next season over the next couple of weeks.”
