2yrs jail for thug who shook baby
BY CONNOR GORDON A THUG who shook a baby girl and injured her brain has been jailed for two years.
Vladimirs Silivanovs, 21, left the one-year-old child with bleeding and swelling on the brain and five fractures to her arm and elbow.
He told police that he “didn’t have a talent for child care” and “looking after kids was not what he wanted to do and wasn’t his style”.
It was the second time in five weeks that Silivanovs had attacked the baby.
The first time, he caused “redness and swelling” to her arm when he pushed her forcefully because she crawled away when he was trying to change her nappy while looking after her.
Silivanovs injured the child’s brain at a flat in Maryhill, Glasgow, on November 3, 2017.
The baby’s mother found her “pale and limp” and doctors discovered “bleeding and associated swelling”. They also found multiple arm fractures caused by blunt force trauma or direct assault”.
Silivanovs claimed the baby had “fainted”. He told police he held her tightly as she struggled in his arms and she fell forward then came round.
He pled guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court last month to assaulting the child to her severe injury. The court heard she was now doing well despite her ordeal.
Sentencing, Sheriff Ian Fleming told Silivanovs, a first offender: “You pled guilty to assaulting, not once but twice, an infant that was a year old in your care. Having committed the assaults, you were less than candid.”
He imposed a five-year non-harassment order on Silivanovs against the girl.
