Guy, 59, hit head as he tried to climb to path

-

THE boss of an advertising agency died in a freak accident when he tried to climb a steep river bank in a park, his family have said.

Guy Robertson, 59, tried to clamber up to another path when he realised that the one he was walking on was a dead end.

His family believe he fell when a branch he was holding gave way, and hit his head.

A doctor jogging on the other side of the River Kelvin in Glasgow saw the accident and crossed the river to try to help Guy, and 30 rescue workers raced to the scene,

BY PAUL DRURY but he could not be saved. A family statement said: “Guy passed away peacefully with family by his side.”

Gary’s partner, Angela Wood, dropped him off at Dawsholm Park in Glasgow at 1.30pm on Sunday. He planned to walk to Bearsden to meet his elderly father, but the path he was on petered out.

The family said: “Instead of retracing his steps, Guy decided to climb the embankment to reach the upper path, using trees and vegetation.

“One of these branches would appear to have given way, resulting in him falling a considerable distance.”

The statement, based on witness accounts, said Guy died because of “a tragic – indeed freak – accident”. It said he would have survived “on any other day”, but he suffered “irrecoverable injuries” when he hit his head on a branch or a rock.

Guy was managing director of Glasgow-based GRA Independent Marketing and Advertising. He previously ran the Guy Robertson Partnership.

His family said: “He was a one-off, in fact unique. That’s what we all loved about him.”
