Police chief’s anger as 200 kids head for beauty spot
HUNDREDS of Scots have been condemned by police for invading a popular beauty spot and breaking lockdown rules.
More than 200 sunseekers, mostly young people, headed to Campsie Glen in Dunbartonshire over 48 hours and were moved on by officers – with four men arrested.
Chief Inspector Lorna Gibson had to draft in extra officers and promised to get tough with louts.
She said officers witnessed countless groups of youths engaging in antisocial behaviour, with some having no interest in the impact of their behaviour on local people.
She said police patrols of the Campsie Glen and Clachan of Campsie areas will be boosted over the coming days and reminded people that Scottish Government guidelines have not been eased much.
CI Gibson said: “Local officers and I are responding to a high demand for our services and this has been exacerbated by the recent spell of good weather and
BY ANDY SHIPLEY slight easing of lockdown restrictions.
“On Monday night we required assistance from additional resources to deal with crowds of people who had travelled from outwith the local area to congregate at Campsie Glen.
“Engaging in antisocial behaviour and being involved in criminality will not be tolerated.
“If you engage in any kind of antisocial behaviour or criminality then you’ll be dealt with robustly.
“The volume of people travelling into this area cannot be sustained safely and the Scottish Government regulations remain that people should only leave the house for very limited purposes.”
The chief inspector told people to consider if any journey is necessary before travelling to places where they would be turned away.
