CARLY READY FOR PIERS OF THE ACTION Booth aims to silence motormouth in pro-celeb clash

- BY MICHAEL GANNON

CARLY BOOTH has been hooked on Piers Morgan’s breakfast TV rants doing lockdown but she’s out to silence the motormouth on the course.

The Scottish ace is set to tee up in tomorrow’s pro-celebrity Paddy Power Golf Challenge – where she’ll join top pros Tommy Fleetwood, Andrew Johnston, Thomas Bjorn and Paul McGinley, as well as Harry Kane, Jamie Redknapp, Freddie Flintoff and Peter Crouch.

Former women’s Scottish Open champ Booth has set her sights on Morgan though as they get set to take part in a series of wacky individual and team challenges, including a Happy Gilmore longest drive, toughest shot test, closest to the pin with a junior club and fastest time to complete a hole.

The action at the Centurion Club, Hertfordshire, will be live online as golf makes its comeback on UK soil.

Booth said: “Piers would be interesting. He usually has a lot to say, especially recently. I’ve enjoyed watching him on breakfast television through all of this.

“I can’t decide if it would be best to beat him or have him on my team.

“I’m not sure who I’d pick as a partner. I’ve played golf with

Redknapp and he’s off scratch. He might be good. Fleetwood and Bjorn are good craic. I don’t know Johnston that well but I’ve heard he’s one of the funny guys on tour.

“I’m really excited. It’s a great lineup and it should be a lot of fun, while raising a bit of money for charity.

“It will just be nice to be doing something on the golf course again.”

Booth reckons the challenge will give golf fans a fix but admitted she’s been missing football more than anything during lockdown.

She said: “Everyone just wants to watch a bit of live sport. I know I’ve missed it, especially the football.

“I’m a huge Liverpool fan so it’s been even worse – don’t go there! Imagine they can’t finish the season, it doesn’t bear thinking about.

“There are a few challenges where I fancy my chances, although the

Happy Gilmore longest drive one might be tricky with Fleetwood around.

“Maybe they’ll let me go from the ladies tee. It’ll just be great to be involved in some fun stuff involving golf.

“I know people have enjoyed seeing Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy recently and this should be something for fans to enjoy as well.”

Booth is itching to get back to competition after putting the clubs away for more than two months.

The Scot, who hails from Perthshire, ended her seven-year wait for a win in the Czech Republic last year and was taking some wellearned time off after 10 years on tour when her lay-off was extended. Booth said: “It was quite refreshing at the start. I turned pro at 17 so had 10 full years and I’ve never really had any time off. I needed a break after last year so took some time off over Christmas. “I only played one tournament and then this happened. Now I’m starting to get a bit antsy. It’s just great to be out again and hopefully this is another step back.” Watch tomorrow on the #PPgolf hashtag on Twitter or Paddy Power YouTube channel.
