PAMELA ANDERSON ON STARRING ROLE IN BAYWATCH
PAMELA Anderson’s children want their mother to cash in on her notoriety to challenge the Kardashians. The Baywatch star revealed: “They tell me, ‘Mom, you could be so famous. You could be so rich, like Kim Kardashian.’ But that’s the last thing I want to be – rich and famous like Kim Kardashian.
“I want to be doing exactly what I am doing now.”
It’s more than 30 years since the first episode of the show that made her name aired.
In today’s celebrity-obsessed world, the blonde legend could certainly leverage her colourful life – which, like Kim K’s, includes a sex tape – if she wanted to.
But unlike the Kardashian clan, her priorities are not flogging lip gloss, underwear or plugging her latest TV show.
Instead, Pamela works to promote animal rights, veganism, AIDS awareness and other environmental and human rights issues.
She’s also a personal friend of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange – she visited him in prison and asked Australian prime minister Scott Morrison to support him.
Pamela said: “I would love to do a really great film one day but I have been so lucky so far to get away with murder in a bikini. I haven’t really had to apply myself too much as an artist.
“As an activist, that is really what I am most proud of and what I want to carry on with.”
Some of the fans who appreciated her red swimsuit struggled to get to grips with her as a vegan campaigner.
But Pamela said: “I like being misunderstood. It’s a little bit more mysterious and it gets you in places that maybe the average person can’t get to.
“I have a really good friend, Vivienne Westwood, who is obviously super-intelligent but she is always so frustrated at not being able to reach people. She always says that I’m a secret weapon.”
Pamela tries to balance her views with the need for gradual change.
She said: “I don’t like to be extreme, although I do have extreme views. I have extreme wishes for everyone in the world to be vegan, but I also appreciate people who are trying to be better by eating less
BY HILARY MORGAN meat and using less plastic. I am not going to throw somebody out because they are not like me.”
Before Baywatch made her a household name, she was another Playboy model trying to make it. Her TV role, as lifeguard CJ Parker, lasted for five series.
Pamela owes that red costume a lot. Explaining why it was such an iconic garment, she said: “It was cut properly and it allows you to show long legs. I loved it and I still do.”
She still wears it – it had a recent outing at a friend’s house.
Pamela said: “I just came out of the shower in my red swimsuit and gave all my friends mouth to mouth.
“I love Baywatch. I would have been on the beach anyway, so I was happy that they paid me. I even got to bring my dog.
“That all led to me getting to defend animal and environmental rights. Everything I learned I applied to my life. Now I am speaking at festivals and doing so many P different things.” amela has two grown-up children with her first husband, Tommy Lee of Motley Crue. They are, she said, her greatest achievement.
The star added: “I’ve been married a few times and survived.
“When I look at a lot of women my age, many of them don’t have kids, have never got married or experienced some of the fun things that I have, so I’m glad I jumped in.
“I do feel fear but I’ve always been the kind of girl who goes ahead and does it anyway. I don’t believe in regrets.”
