WELL NEED TO SHUFFLE DEC

- SCOTT BURNS

DECLAN GALLAGHER knows Motherwell need to take their medicine and learn from their openingnight mistakes.

The skipper and his Fir Park team-mates fell to an error-strewn 1-0 defeat by Ross County on Monday.

Gallagher has to take his share of the responsibility as he gave away the penalty for Ross Stewart’s winner.

Liam Donnelly missed a spot-kick while Chris Long and Callum Lang blew chances from open play.

Lang then added to a night of frustration as he found himself sent off.

Gallagher said: “When we missed the penalty I thought it might be one of those nights for us.

“Chris did well for his chance and he is unlucky he hit the post. Liam is Mr Reliable from the penalty spot usually.

“He was a bit down in the dressing room after it, which is understandable. He is a passionate player so he was gutted. He felt like he let the boys down but that’s not the case.

“I gave away the penalty, we had a red card and a missed penalty. But we are a team and we will stick together. We win and lose as a team.”

Gallagher bemoaned ref Nick Walsh’s decision to point to the spot for his challenge on Harry Paton.

He said: “I felt I was going in to block the shot – I wasn’t thinking about winning a tackle.

“I just wanted to get my body between the ball and goal. I felt I got there and blocked it but his momentum took him into me. He’s felt me coming in and screamed.

“I felt I made the block. The referee said it was a clumsy tackle and I went through the boy.”
