LOSE A STONE IN 21 DAYS
Recipes from TV diet show that will help you shed those lockdown pounds quickly
LOSING weight is never easy, so shedding a stone in just 21 days sounds virtually impossible. But Michael Mosley insists it can be done – and to prove it, he is helping five people lose pounds they piled on during lockdown.
The TV doctor puts them on an 800-calorie-a-day, low-carbohydrate diet in his Channel 4 series Lose a Stone in 21 Days. The plan is to encourage rapid weight loss by getting their bodies to burn fat, not sugar.
Britain is already one of the fattest nations in Europe with two-thirds of adults overweight or obese. Michael said the coronavirus crisis has only made it worse.
He said: “We were crammed into the house, worrying about our jobs, our kids – and when people are stressed they eat badly. So I thought that now was a good time to tell other people how they can lose the weight quickly and cut the risk factors.”
His diet plan is based on a study his GP wife Clare Bailey, a bestselling cookbook author, did with Oxford University. Overweight patients with type 2 diabetes on a maximum 1,000calorie low-carb diet for eight weeks lost an average of 22lb.
Clare’s recipes, used in the three-part show, cut out potatoes, white rice and bread. Volunteers on the show eat just 30g of carbs a day at the start to bring them into a state of ketosis – when the body stops burning sugar to use up its stores of fat. It has sparked criticism from charities for encouraging crash dieting. But Michael insists the diet is safe and healthy.
Here are some of the recipes that could help you get your pre-lockdown body shape back. Lose A Stone in 21 Days wth Michael Mosley, tonight, 9pm , Channel 4.
