Let the real facts dominate the agenda

IT IS absolute nonsense to suggest a Scottish public health adviser is anti-English because she fears the pandemic being brought across the border. Edinburgh University professor Devi Sridhar, left, wrote an article for the New York Times claiming the way the Government at Westminster handled the pandemic down south could result in a further surge of cases in Scotland.

There is nothing racist about what is plain common sense and Prof Sridhar must be wondering how stating the obvious embroiled her in a constitutional debate.

She also referred to a host of other countries in the story – had those who chose to cherry-pick it for political gain bothered to read it. The Scottish Government is not being racist against France or Spain, or Aberdonians.

The shambolic handling of the virus by Boris Johnson has led to a higher infection rate in England and we could pay the price – it really is that simple.

Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross has jumped on the bandwagon to distract from being caught out taking an assistant refereeing gig instead of attending VJ celebrations in his constituency. He said: “Tourism is critical to Scotland’s economy and we should welcome everyone.”

For a party who want to use military might to turn back refugees in dinghies, he’s become awfully inclusive.

We can’t welcome everyone, hence quarantines and local lockdowns.

It’s not anti-English, it’s anti-Covid.
