ULTIMATE KILLER DOG

Thugs breeding animals with speed of a greyhound and ferocity of an American pit bull to savage Scottish wildlife

BLOODTHIRSTY hunters are using a savage new breed of dog to kill deer, badgers and foxes.

Thugs created the bull lurchers to combine the speed of a greyhound with the power and ferocity of a pit bull.

An animal charity inspector revealed: “They are basically genetically programmed to kill everything that moves.”

THESE photos show a new breed of ultimate killer dogs being used to ravage wildwildanimalsanimals ininScotland.Scotland.

The animals – bred to satisfy the emerging bloodlust for urban hunting in our towns – belonged to sadistic Martin Davidson and have been bred to combine the speed of greyhounds with the power and ferocity of American pit bull fighting dogs.

After being seized from Davidson, the Scottish SPCA is seeking to rehome the two bull lurchers and a Staffie, which they believe can still be good pets in the hands of the right owners.

Long and lean legs mean the two big hunting dogs can easily catch and bring down even large deer.

The oversized heads and hugely powerful jaws mean they easily overcome even the most ferocious badgers and foxes.

Dogs like these are often trained to kill every animal in sight – including rare otters, hares, rabbits, pheasant and domestic cats.

One undercover inspector at the Scottish SPCA said animal fighting – mainly the killing of badgers, deer and foxes by dogs – is now the single most pressing concern for the organisation.

He said: “We are seeing these bull lurcher types again and again in

Scotland. They are the ultimate fighting dogs, super-fast with massive jaws and big, muscular front quarters

“They are basically genetically programmed to kill everything that moves but somehow they do tend to have good natures and are good with humans and other dogs.

“We have uncovered evidence of these dogs bringing down roe deer or even red deer. But they have been filmed killing all kinds of animals.

“We have laws to protect badgers and we are trying to preserve species like otters but the owners of these animals see such animals as trophies.

“They have no shame. Exchanging videos of their ‘sport’ is all part of the fun and we have retrieved photos and videos that would really turn decent people’s stomachs.”

Such dogs have replaced breeds such as wolfhounds and deerhounds and are emerging in many former mining towns, where urban hunting seems to have taken hold.

The new breeds are referred to as bull lurchers, bull greys and alaunts, which were popular in the 17th century but became extinct.

New variations of such dogs have now been bred, with each generation faster and stronger than those before.

Davidson, of Lochore, Fife, was banned from keeping animals for five years after he admitted training his bull lurchers, Tramp, Mojo and Sid, and Staffie Lady, to fight animals, including badgers.

He also pled guilty at Dunfermline Sheriff Court to failing to ensure the welfare of his animals.

Davidson had videos showing his dogs attacking foxes and posing with injured and dead animals. The court heard that Lady had significant scarring to her muzzle and lower jaw, consistent with animal fighting, in particular badger baiting. The three lurchers were found outdoors in a kennel and run in the rear garden, far too small for their size and breed. Two had obvious, fresh injuries to their ears and heads. Inspectors believed the animals had almost certainly been involved in badger baiting, as the lower jaw injuries are typical when cornered badgers fight back inside their setts. Investigators also found hunting gear, blood-stained wellies and a spot lamp commonly used for hunting at night. Sheriff Alastair Brown deferred sentence to October 2.
