HAGGAS & SWEEPS

- BY GARRY OWEN

MONTATHAM (3.55) can bag a cracking renewal of the Chasemore Fortune Stakes at Sandown.

William Haggas’ gelding improved again when edging out the talented Sir Busker in a red-hot handicap at York.

The grey looks a proper Group- race performer so should take this promotion to Listed level in his stride.

Haggas can double up with BAARRIJ (5.0) in the trappy Tellisford Handicap. The filly is nicely unexposed over middle distances after outbattling Time Voyage at Ripon.

The opening sprint is trickier but Clive Cox’s VELETA (2.15) stands out. The filly is quirky but should triumph with any repeat of her cosy defeat of Twelve Diamonds at Bath.

WALIYAK (3.10) is the call in the valuable John Musker Fillies’ Stakes at Yarmouth.

Roger Varian’s horse built on some excellent efforts when hammering the talented Folk Dance at Lingfield. The threeyear-old oozed class that day so can land a competitive Listed event for her handler.

GLEN FORCE (4.20) looks a typical Sir Mark Prescott improver after his third to Lord Neidin at Chelmsford last week.

INDIAN SOUNDS (4.35) should strike for sprint expert Paul Midgley at Beverley.

The thriving four-year-old still lurks on a decent mark after going down narrowly to Watchable at Thirsk.

CALLIOPE (3.40) stands to score for Dianne Sayer on day one of the season at Kelso. The mare looks well treated after giving handicap blot Raymond most resistance at Perth.

KIRUNA PEAK (4.40) can extend Fergal O’Brien’s winning streak in the novices’ chase.

The six-year-old should put his rivals to the sword from the front after routing Lake Baikal at Southwell . SKIDDAW

VALLEYS (5.10) seems poised to shade the feature Racing Welfare Handicap Hurdle.

Nicky Richards’ charge put in a career best when second to Tight Call on his return at Southwell and can turn the tables at today’s weights.

DUBAI OUTLAW (6.10) looks dangerous in the Radio Borders Cash for Kids Handicap Hurdle. David Jeffreys’ gelding ought to defy a 7lb hike for hammering Kendelu in a stronger event at Fontwell.
