EMOTIONS OF KENNY MADE IT SO SPECIAL

-

ON the night Liverpool secured the title – June 25 – when Chelsea beat Manchester City, Jurgen Klopp’s players watched Sir Kenny Dalglish tear up.

“We had the big screens on and another Celtic legend, arguably the greatest of them all, appeared,” says Robbo.

“There was a bit of a hush because we all wanted to hear what Sir Kenny had to say but the look on his face, illuminated by emotion and pride, told us all we needed to know.

“Sir Kenny has won everything in the game but he showed his emotions 30 years on because he knew better than anyone else how big this was.

“We saw how much it meant to the gaffer and various Liverpool legends and that’s when it really hit home.

“When you see Sir Kenny – a man who has a stand at Anfield named after him – crying because of something that we had achieved, you can’t help but feel proud.” And 12 months after partying with Dalglish in Madrid, Robbo shared another trophy celebration with the Kop icon as skipper Jordan Henderson got them going.

He adds: “Our prize gleamed just as the European Cup had a year earlier and the red ribbons that adorned it told the world that finally, after all these years, the Premier League belonged to Liverpool Football Club.

“All that remained was for the ritual to be observed – a pair of shuffling feet to dance on the stage followed by a quick spin and the silverware to be thrust into the sky.

”Even with a strapping around his injured knee, Hendo pulled it off to perfection. His signature move had been delivered and it happened in the presence of the last manager to make Liverpool champions way back in 1990.

“For us, as a team and a club, this was as close to perfection as it gets.”
