No Good leadership is on show in Scotland
JIM GOODWIN has accused the SPFL of failing to show leadership by not postponing Saturday’s clash with Hibs in light of St Mirren’s keeper crisis.
The Buddies boss has been left hanging by the governing body after his demand for answers as to why he was left scrambling around for a keeper just hours before kick-off.
Goodwin reckons there’s no point in pursuing the matter now.
But he is adamant that special dispensation should have been granted to the Buddies, that the game could have been rearranged for 10 days later and that the Old Firm would NOT have been made to play.
Goodwin, whose side face Celtic this evening in a match rearranged due to Boli Bolingoli’s Covid-19 rules breach, said: “I can understand from the SPFL’s point of view they don’t want to be cancelling games every single week.
“But there should have been a rule in place that if this kind of thing happened to the goalkeeping department, then there has to be special dispensation.
“I ’ m aware how difficult and congested the fixture list is. But there was no issue with playing this game 10 days from Saturday.
“Although the rules are put in place by FIFA, every organisation can make their own decisions at key times and this would have been one of those moments where you’d have hoped for a bit of leadership.”
Goodwin says his demand for an explanation from the SPFL has been met with silence. “I don’t think we are a big enough club,” he added. “If something like this had happened to Celtic or Rangers, it’s a different story.”
