IN THE FRIEND ZONE

- BY GARRY OWEN

OLD FRIEND (7.0) can be a punter’s pal on the allweather at Wolverhampton.

Ed Walker’s gelding recorded another personal best when just held by Goldie Hawk over course and distance last month.

That was a strong event for the level and this unexposed type ought to go one better for his shrewd handler.

QAARAAT (4.15) should boost trainer Antony Brittain’s excellent record at this venue.

A game winner here last month, the sprinter stayed in form with a fine second to Swanton Blue at Chelmsford.

The five-year-old remains well treated so looks ready to resume the winning thread back over five furlongs.

KODIAC PRIDE (4.45) rates a typical Sir Mark Prescott improver heading into the Holiday Inn Handicap.

The four-year-old improved again when cosily dismissing Amplification over track and trip in August. The gelding is open to plenty of progress so should defy a well-earned 7lb hike under Luke Morris.

BERKSHIRE PHILLY (5.20) can extend Andrew Balding’s winning run in the Sky Sports Handicap. The three-year-old put in her best effort of the campaign when second to Tidal Racer here last month.

The filly is largely unexposed at this stage so stands to go one better in a slightly weaker contest. Dean Ivory is just hitting form so LAURENTIA (5.55) is worth backing in the Sky Racing Handicap.

The filly still lurks on a workable mark after cosily dismissing Amor Fati in a decent event at Chelmsford.

BAYSTON HILL (6.30) can complete a hat-trick for skilled Lambourn handler Mark Usher.

The gelding stands to relish tackling 1m 4f after outbattling Double Reflection in a warm Chelmsford handicap. ANNIE ROSE (7.30) should step up for David Barron in the nursery.

The juvenile has taken a liking to this venue with backto-back wins in the summer.

The filly then flopped on turf at Doncaster but can get going again in these calmer waters.

DREAM HOUSE (8.0) rates a value bet for Tim Easterby in a trappy five-furlong handicap.

The four-year-old lurks on an attractive all-weather mark after his fair third to Dapper Man on turf at Redcar.
