Bayern are Lew good
ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI scored all of Bayern Munich’s goals last night including a stoppage-time penalty to give the Bundesliga champions a 4-3 home win over Hertha Berlin in a pulsating clash.
The result left Bayern fourth in the standings on six points from three games, one behind the top three led by Leipzig on goal difference.
The sides had a goal each ruled out for offside before Lewandowski fired a 40th-minute opener, drilling in a Serge Gnabry cross after goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow had saved his header.
Bayern seemed to be in cruise control after Lewandowski made it 2-0 with a superb shot on the turn from the edge of the penalty area in the 51st but Hertha Berlin had other ideas.
Jhon Cordoba pulled one back with a towering header which keeper Manuel Neuer could not keep out and Matheus Cunha equalised after steering a low shot into the bottom corner.
That set up a frantic climax, with Lewandowski again taking centre stage and boosting his tally to 103 goals in 98 home games for Bayern at the Allianz Arena.
He popped up at the far post in the 85th minute to tap in a cross from the right but Bayern’s joy was shortlived as sub Jessic Ngankam levelled three minutes later with his first touch of the ball.
The 20- year old Ngankam netted his first Bundesliga goal with a diving header, only for Hertha to see what would have been a well-deserved draw slip from their grasp.
Bayern and Lewandowski had the last laugh as the prolific Polish striker dispatched his spot-kick into the bottom left corner after he was hauled down by Maximilian Mittelstaedt.
In Italy, Rafael Leao scored twice as Celtic’s Europa League rivals AC Milan overcame a stubborn Spezia 3-0 to maintain their perfect start to the Serie A season.
Milan, who have won all three games without conceding a goal, needed 57 minutes to break down the Serie A debutants before the Portuguese forward turned in Hakan Calhanoglu’s free-kick at the far post.
Theo Hernandez added the second in 76 minutes, winning possession before surging forward to score with an angled drive, and Leao added a third from close range two minutes later.
Barcelona dropped their first points of the season in La Liga after being held to a 1-1 draw by Sevilla at the Nou Camp.
Philippe Coutinho quickly levelled Luuk de Jong’s eighthminute opener but Barca couldn’t find an all-important winner.
