Guardiola will never entertain blame game

-

PEP GUARDIOLA claims he’s proud he’s never thrown any of his players under the bus.

Jose Mourinho may have no qualms about criticising his players’ mistakes in public but Guardiola says that will never be his style.

The Man City boss refused to blame Ederson for his clanger, which cost the Blues two points against Leeds, when he made a mess of Kalvin Phillips’ corner to allow Rodrigo to hit the equaliser.

“No, it’s not his concentration, his concentration is there all the time,” said Guardiola in defence of his goalkeeper.

“It’s part of being a human being. We created four or five chances to score a goal and we didn’t do it.

“I’m so proud that in 12 years I never appeared here in a press conference and said we lost because this guy missed this one and this guy missed that one.

“They are so mature and intelligent professionals and know when they do well and when they do not do so well.

“It’s part of the game. They didn’t want to do it, they did it and they know we have to improve and avoid it. That’s how it is. We were there all the time, until the end and that makes me proud.”

The title race may still be in its infancy but Guardiola isn’t going to panic.

“Society gives credit for the winners,” he said sagely. “It’s like perfume: when you win, you smell so good. When you don’t, you smell so bad.

“We have one less game. I know we have to win games to be on top but I’m not going to start after three games to think if we are going to win the league.”
