HOLIDAYMAKERS WARNED ABOUT COACH TRAVEL
NICOLA Sturgeon warned against travelling in Covid hotspots after concerns about infections picked up on coach trips.
The First Minister urged caution, particularly in central Scotland, with schools on holiday and breaks planned by those in the Central Belt to other areas. The warning also follows a rush from restricted areas such as Glasgow and Edinburgh to neighbouring regions to take advantage of alcohol sales at pubs.
There’s no law against travelling and Scots are not being ordered to cancel holiday plans.
At her daily briefing yesterday, Sturgeon thanked Scots for sticking to the new rules on social gathering but urged: “Don’t think that it is safe to cut corners.”
Another 961 new infections, but no deaths, were registered in the previous 24 hours, the Scottish Government confirmed yesterday.
It comes after two days of lockdown on pubs and restaurants across central Scotland and restrictions on indoor hospitality in the rest of the country.
The Record revealed how thirsty Scots were happy to travel from Glasgow to places like Helensburgh for a pint.
Sturgeon said in her first statement since the new rules: “We’ve seen a number of Covid cases in recent weeks coming through our Test and Protect system which have been associated with travel, often coach travel, to other parts of the UK.
“That underlines how important it is to be careful. Make sure you’re wearing face coverings, observing physical distancing and taking all other precautionary measures.”
