Lorry deaths: Suspect is still at large
AN “ELUSIVE and sinister” suspect in the deaths of 39 migrants is still at large, a court heard yesterday.
Gheorghe Nica, 43, and Eamonn Harrison, 23, both deny the manslaughter of the Vietnamese men and women found in the sealed container in Essex.
At the Old Bailey, Nica’s lawyer Aftab Jafferjee QC questioned the roles of haulage boss Ronan Hughes and two outstanding suspects, including the “presence of the elusive and sinister Marius Draghici”.
The migrants were found dead on October 23, 2019, after being transported from Belgium.
Four defendants have already admitted their part in the plot, including Hughes, 41, of Co Armagh, Northern Ireland.
The trial continues.
