Callous thief steals gran’s jewellery as she lies dying in hospital bed

A HEARTBROKE­N daughter hit out at “disgusting” thief or thieves who stole jewellery from her mum as she lay dying in hospital.

Retired dinner lady Maureen Nicholson was just 64 when she passed away on September 222 with a chest infection at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Maureen’s devastated family found that three goldd chains and ringss which the grand-mother regularly worere had vanished andnd police are now probingng the suspected theft.

Daughter Margaret,ret, 38, told the Record: “We are just devastated.

“The jewellery isn’t worth thousands, it is mostly sentimenta­l value to my family.family

“We have been in touch with the NHS but they just sent us a claim form.

“It just seems so cruel. It would mean the world to us to have it back.”

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said: “We understand that this must be a very distressin­g time for the family and our sympathies are with them at this timtime. We have been in concontact with the patient’s daudaughte­r to advise that, dedespite extensive searches, we have been unable to locate the jewellery and would be happy to coopcooper­ate with any police investigat­ion. “While we have advised on arrangemen­ts for compensati­on, we appreciate the personal and sentimenta­l value associated with such a loss and we are extremely sorry for the additional distress this has caused.”
