McGlynn on mend and ‘eager’ for Rovers return
JOHN McGLYNN could be back in the Raith dugout for their Championship opener against Arbroath following gallbladder surgery.
Assistant Paul Smith has taken charge of Rovers’ last two Betfred Cup fixtures against East Fife and Hearts after McGlynn’s operation at the Royal Edinburgh Infirmary on
Sunday. But he’s now recuperating at home and Smith said: “If everything goes well then he could potentially be back for the first game on Saturday.
“John will no doubt try to push himself but we’ll try to keep him in check!
“I spoke to him a few times before the game on Tuesday and had a chat for a couple of minutes after full-time – he’s doing well and he is eager to get back.
“But the main thing is he comes back when everyone says he is ready.”
The Rovers No.2 also hailed Lewis Vaughan’s successful comeback from a third cruciate knee-ligament injury with the mercurial forward a substitute in Tuesday night’s 3-1 defeat by the Jambos.
Smith said: “It was fantastic to see Lewis back. He’s had such a hard time.
“He hit a free- kick that forced a fantastic save which showed his quality. If he stays fit then he’ll play a massive part for Raith in the Championship.”
