58% of Scots say YES to indy in shock new poll
Bombshell poll shows highest ever support for Yes
SUPPORT for Scottish independence has reached its highest ever recorded level, a bombshell poll has revealed.
A survey by Ipsos Mori found that 58 per cent of Scots would vote Yes at a future IndyRef2, once those who did not hold a firm view were excluded from the total.
Including undecideds, 55 per cent of people would vote Yes if there was an independence referendum tomorrow, 39 per cent would vote No and six per cent said they didn’t know.
Another poll, commissioned by the Progress Scotland think-tank set up by former SNP MP Angus Robertson, found 75 per cent of Scots would vote for independence if they could be convinced it would boost the economy. The survey found 57 per cent of respondents already believed it could be good for the economy in the long term.
In response to the poll, Nicola Sturgeon tweeted: “Independence is about Scotland – everyone who lives here – determining the path we want to take at home and in the world.
“For those of us already convinced, let’s keep persuading others, with respect and civility. We all have a stake in the future we build.”
Pamela Nash, chief executive of Scotland in Union, said: “The very last thing we need is to plunge the country into a constitutional argument once again – it’s the time to focus on protecting our NHS, saving jobs and tackling poverty.”
