I’m not ready to grow out of Halloween yet

-

IT’S the most wonderful time of the year…

You might be thinking, “Wait a minute, that’s definitely a Christmas number”, but this is just how strongly I feel about Halloween.

If you know much about me or looked back at my socials, you’ll know I’ve always been passionate about the night when the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead become blurred. Mainly because I love to dress up.

Sadly, this year it looks like Covid has become a pumpkin-wearing Grinch and, rather than him stealing Christmas like he tried to do in the Dr Seuss book, the green – or should that now be orange – wee so-and-so has stolen Halloween.

The pandemic surely means Halloween this year is cancelled. You can’t go guising to other people’s houses and you certainly can’t go dookin’ for apples wearing a mask.

Heartbroken doesn’t begin to describe how I’m feeling.

There is honestly nothing I love more than playing tricks on people. As a kid, I was always the one (and still am to this day) jumping out from behind a door when you walk into a quiet room.

I love “acting the goat”, as my mum would say. It’s fun being a big kid.

I was always the first out guising, come rain or torrential rain, on those dark Halloween nights.

If you wondered where I got my love of dressing up, it’s from Halloween. I was always given the prize for best costume at my school Halloween disco.

I like to glam up Halloween rather than scare you.

My scariest costume was just me with a sheet over my head and two eyeholes cut out. I wore it guising with my eight-year-old niece Ava around the streets of Dubai when I lived there. She and I went round the crazy, if the most quiet ever, streets.

Most of the neighbours loved the idea of the two kids guising in Dubai – even the one who looked very tall for her age.

And, yes, I know the burning question you’re all thinking: Did I take the sweets? You’ll never know… YES! Yes, I did. Tricked you.

SELF-ISOLATION is making me hungry and desperate to get out and about. I’m already dreaming of nights out. Before my entertainment was looking at my four walls, I’d found a hidden gem I’d like to share with you – Nonna’s Kitchen in Kirkintilloch. Their, I might say “easy on the eye”, mixologists know how to style up some impressive cocktails. I may have had one too many, all for research purposes of course. The food is what us millennials like to call “instagrammable”, with generous portion sizes too, so you can’t go wrong if you’re a hungry bear like me. The idyllic outdoor seating area allows you to watch the world go by… well, at least the wee ducks. I can’t wait to go back. Cheers!
