Students beat boredom by growing 3k pumpkins

- BY PAUL RODGER

TWO students have grown 3000 pumpkins – after planting seeds while bored during lockdown.

Pals David Grant-Suttie, 21, and Alex Humphreys, 22, have grown a variety including pot of gold, Atlantic giant, goosebumps and Jack O’Lantern.

The pair planted 1000 seeds at David’s family farm on Balgone Estate in North Berwick and were yesterday welcoming Halloween revellers to hand pick them.

Alex, a fourth year business and entrepreneurship student at

Edinburgh Napier University, said: “It’s been six months since we started it and we haven’t really had a day off.”

Last year, the lads planted 300 seeds as an experiment but when lockdown came into force, they decided to make it into a business.

David, a second year economics student at the University of Glasgow, said: “It’s been a steep learning curve but the pumpkins have turned out well.”
