Hip to be square sausage as chef snaps up breakfast roll painting

- BY ANDY SHIPLEY

A CHEF who loves square sausage has snapped up a painting of his favourite Scottish snack. Sean Michael Martin bought an original work of a roll and sausage for £120 from the Scottish Design Exchange and it now has pride of place on the living room wall of his flat in Glasgow’s south side. Sean, 34, said: “My eyes were instantly drawn to a painting up high on the wall.

“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Someone had taken hours and hours of real talent to paint a roll and square sausage.”

Sean stood mesmerised in the gallery and the work – by artist Lee Robertson – brought back mouthwatering memories.

He added: “It was that thing yer pal’s maw cooked you after a night out when you were teenagers.

“The thing your gran sorted you out with on a Sunday when you popped round.

“It has fuelled a nation for decades and is, I dare say, a part of the family.”
