Sean cooks and I just sit and watch
PROPERTY show presenter Amanda Lamb, 48, tells us about her typical weekend with cameraman husband Sean McGuinness and their children, Willow, 11, and Lottie, seven. FRIDAY night is normally when all four of us finally manage to get back together again. My husband’s away a lot filming Location, Location, Location and Salvage Hunters.
Quite often we go to our favourite pizza restaurant on the local high street. Our daughters have started new schools, so there’s a lot to discuss about friends and things going on.
Then it’s bedtime for the kids and time for my husband and I to catch up and say: “Hello, you! I vaguely remember being married to you.”
I’ve got the Couch To 5k running app, so on a Saturday morning I go for a run while everyone else is in bed. After that, I’ll probably grab the papers and some bakery bits. It’s a slow, leisurely time. I love the Saturday Show on Radio 4, so I always listen to that when I get back and cook breakfast for the kids.
I’m very mindful that they’re cooped up in classrooms all week, so the afternoon is normally forcing everyone to get out for a walk with the dog. Then on Saturday evenings, the kids have a movie night. They watch a movie with popcorn, and Sean and I are downstairs cooking a nice meal together. Or he cooks and I just sit and watch.
On Sundays, it tends to be a lazy morning again. We might visit Kew Gardens, one of our favourite places, because it’s not far from where we live. Then we’ll be back for a Sunday roast in the evening.
After we’ve put the kids to bed, we’ll watch something. I love Strike. And we’ll collapse in a heap, bracing ourselves for the onslaught of Monday.
