Robbie: My men can take Heart from our flying start

-

HEARTS boss Robbie Neilson insists it was vital his side got off to a flying start in the shortened Championship season.

The Tynecastle gaffer watched his side batter Dundee 6-2 in the opening game of the campaign last night, with the Dens Park outfit expected to be their nearest challengers.

But Neilson has warned his players they need to continue in the same vein if they are to get back to the Premiership at the first time of asking.

Neilson said: “I was really pleased with the start. We spoke about being on the front foot.

“There were some really good goals. It’s just a pity there was no one here to see it.

“There are only 26 games left so it’s important to start well, get a bit of confidence. They’ll have that now. We need to win at Arbroath now. We can’t take our foot off the gas at all.”

Dundee boss James McPake admits he was frustrated by the game and was left fizzing that his players couldn’t deal with the pace of the home side.

He said: “We knew Hearts were going to start fast. It was the last thing we said in the dressing room and we couldn’t handle it. It’s concerning.

“Even in the second half, it’s easy to come out and look positive at 4-1 down. It doesn’t take courage to do that.

“On that performance there is a gulf, not just to Hearts but any team if you play like that.”
