IT says everything about the current state of play with Covid-19 that Nicola Sturgeon has become a Hotline star.

The First Minister’s call for the Old Firm game to be screened on free to view to deter punters from breaching coronaviru­s regulation­s has split opinion after SPFL chief Neil Doncaster shot down the idea.

William Hutchison, Aberdeen, said: “I’m a Celtic fan and I’m glad the league rejected the First Minister’s plea for the Old Firm game to be broadcast free because it’s not fair on other people to have to pay to watch their team.

“Some people don’t have Sky so Sturgeon should appeal to the SFA to show Scotland’s game against Serbia on free TV so the whole nation can cheer in their own homes.”

Mark Smith, Glasgow, said: “What planet is Doncaster on? Does he have shares in Sky? For the SPFL chief executive to come out with the statement, ‘They’re paying £125million over five years to broadcast Scottish Football’, is ludicrous.

“Broadcasti­ng the Old Firm game free could save thousands of lives, not to mention the fact thousands are out of jobs and have lost their incomes. It’s Sky that put Scottish football in the mess it’s in financiall­y when they pulled out years ago.”

Kevin Lord, Edinburgh, said: “As a non-Old Firm fan and someone who pays for Sky Sports, I will definitely cancel my subscripti­on if they bow to pressure because a load of Neandertha­ls can’t control their thirst for bevvy.”
