VIEWERS STRICTLY POSITIVE ABOUT LAUNCH

- BY NICOLA METHVEN

STRICTLY Come Dancing drew a peak of nine million viewers on Saturday night, with some viewers even claiming the show had “saved 2020”.

One was so impressed with the way producers had organised everything from social distancing to the first same-sex couple, she suggested they were given new responsibilities.

“Has the Government considered putting the Strictly bosses in charge of national Covid planning?” wrote fan Rachel McGrath on social media.

“Because honestly I think they could do really well.”

The pre-recorded programme was watched by an average of 8.6million viewers, the highest audience for a launch show since 2017.

Viewers were hugely impressed by the confirmation that Nicola Adams was dancing with female pro Katya Jones, with one saying:

“Nicola Adams and Katya Jones making history together.

“What a power partnership this is going to be.”

And another pairing making people feel happy was last year’s winner Oti Mabuse with comedian Bill Bailey.

Louise Griffin wrote: “I can’t decide if I’m more excited for Nicola and Katya or the fact that Bill Bailey actually appears to have moves.”

Olivia Hope went even further.

“Oh Lordy. Oti and Bill. 2020 has been saved,” she said.

Famous fans were also impressed by the show’s feelgood qualities. Grayson Perry said: “Loving Strictly – a good natured gust of normality. Such an abundance of goodwill. Cheesy but so human.”

Sara Cox declared she was backing Adams and Jones, saying: “These two giving me all the feels. They are going to be brilliant. I’m team Nicola & Katya all the way.”
