Revellers set off with goal in mind
STAG and hen parties have used Soccer Saturday to decide on their booze-up destinations.
Presenter Jeff Stelling said revellers told him they watched his Sky Sports show with their bags packed and ready to go – wherever the first goal is scored that comes up on the vidiprinter.
In a new book written pre-Covid, Jeff, 65, said: “Virtually every week now we get letters, emails and tweets from people with another reason to watch carefully.
“Stag and hen parties and birthday bashes increasingly seem to rely on where the first goal to appear on the vidiprinter has been scored.
“If it’s Scunthorpe United 1 Southend 0, it is off to Scunthorpe for the bash.”
In I’ve Got Mail, Jeff added: “The Sky Jolly Boys, a group of football-loving Sky wor k e r s in Scotland, decided on their annual trip away on the same basis.
“It turned out that they were off to Blackpool.”
