YESTERDAY we told how football fans ignored Nicola Sturgeon’s plea not to travel to English pubs and watch the first Old Firm match of the season.

Hundreds of supporters crossed the Border on Saturday to drink pints as Celtic and Rangers slugged it out inside an empty Parkhead stadium. News of the punters heading south split opinion among Record readers.

Kevin Paterson said about the rebels: “So you don’t care about the vulnerable and elderly?

“You don’t mind passing the virus to them? “How selfish can you get?”

Sharon Kane added: “Sad, sad people if they had to go all that way to watch a match. They would have been safer staying at home. This week we will see the increase yet again, all because of these absolute idiots.”

John Dowson was among several who disagreed. He wrote: “They didn’t break the rules. Carlisle is open for business.”

Andrina McPhee added: “It’s schools, colleges and universities that’s the problem. Not pubs.”
