City’s Booth: We could’ve scored more

-

SCOTT BOOTH hailed a “brilliant” opening- day performance after Glasgow City’s 2-0 win over Celtic.

Second-half goals from Rachel McLauchlan and Kirsty Howat secured the win at Broadwood as City began their pursuit of 14 SWPL1 titles in a row.

Booth said: “The great surface here allowed us to play some brilliant football.

“Without any disrespect to Celtic, who were always in the game, we controlled it. And if we’d been able to finish better it could’ve been more goals.”

But Rangers are top after Zoe Ness grabbed a hattrick to see off Hearts 5-1.

Kirsten Reilly and Demi Vance were also on target, with Murron Cunningham firing a consolation goal.

Sub Carla Boyce grabbed the winner as Hibs beat Spartans 2-1 at Ainslie Park.

Eilidh Adams fired Hibs into an early lead before Becky Galbraith levelled.

Boyce replaced injured Shannon McGregor and clinched victory 10 minutes after the restart.

London Pollard and Donna Paterson both grabbed doubles as Forfar defeated Motherwell 4-2, with Lauren Gallon netting twice for the visitors.

The SWPL is back on November 1, with Scotland facing Albania in their Euro qualifier on Friday night at Tynecastle before heading to Helsinki for the Finland clash four days later.
