Van Dijk will miss months after op
LIVERPOOL confirmed the worst fears of their worried fans – Virgil van Dijk will have surgery on a knee injury that will sideline him for months.
The Dutch defender spent time with a specialist yesterday for what is understood to be a grade three tear of his anterior cruciate ligament.
That is the worst level, with the ligament torn in half. Average recovery time from such an injury can be six to 12 months but Liverpool are reluctant to put a timeframe on his return.
Jurgen Klopp said after the derby draw at
Everton: “It is not good with Virgil but we will show the response we’ve shown in all situations.”
Klopp was angry at the Jordan Pickford challenge that put van Dijk out.
And the Reds will ask for more transparency on VAR judgments after Jordan Henderson’s late winner for offside was ruled out given images seemed to show Sadio Mane was level when he crossed.
