Manuel seals stunning comeback as Jose rages

- JOHN CROSS AT TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR STADIUM

JOSE MOURINHO branded his Spurs players “weak” after they threw away a three-goal lead in one of the all-time great Premier League comebacks.

West Ham sub Manuel Lanzini scored a 94th-minute equaliser after the visitors fought back from 3-0 down with just seven minutes of normal time remaining.

Shellshocked Spurs gaffer Mourinho tore into his sloppy side and accused them of switching off after taking such a commanding first-half lead.

The furious Portuguese said: “It was exactly when we were in control that we conceded the first and their belief went up. My guys were not strong enough to cope with it psychologically. The last few seconds we lost two points.

“I have to analyse the second half and do it internally. But for you I say ‘football happened’ and praise West Ham’s belief.

“It’s not easy to be losing 3-0 and be dominated, to keep the belief. I knew they were a different team to last season but to lose a threegoal advantage is a big punishment and eventually deserved.

“We should be stronger. In the second half they risked quite a lot, pressing up and gave us more space. We should get an occasion to win the game.”

Harry Kane and Son Heung-min combined to devastating effect again as Tottenham raced into a three-goal lead.

Kane set up a goal for Son for the sixth time this season when his through ball found the South Korean, who fired into the bottom corner inside the first minute.

Son then returned the favour before Sergio Reguilon crossed for Kane to head home the third after only 16 minutes.

Gareth Bale came on with 18 minutes remaining but it was West Ham who dominated the closing stages, pulling two back through Fabian Balbuena’s header and a Davinson Sanchez own goal.

Bale almost capped his return with a stoppage-time goal only for his shot to clip a post and moments later Lanzini smashed in a memorable equaliser.

Frustrated striker Son said: “The lads are devastated for the result, we think we deserved three points and played really well until the last 10 minutes. It’s a shock.”

Jubilant West Ham boss David

Moyes hailed his players for their strength of character and said: “It is one of these moments you don’t often get. At one point you’re saying, ‘How bad can this get?’.

“As a manager at times it is hard to use the word proud but tonight was a really proud moment to be manager of the team.

“It is a big result. Hopefully the supporters will have enjoyed it. I have just seen my celebration... David Pleat moment came to mind.

“I know someone else who has run and slid down the touchline, so I wasn’t going to copy that.”
