Burns may light title flame yet again

-

RICKY BURNS has a final chance to reclaim a world title after being of fered an eliminator for the WBA lightweight crown in January.

Contracts were signed yesterday for the 37-year-old – the first Scot to become a world champ in three separate weight divisions – to meet 40-year-old Russian Eduard Troyanovsky in Latvia.

They will battle for the right to meet the winner between undefeated belt holder Gervonta Davis and challenger Yuriorkis Gamboa, who meet in December.

Burns’ manager Alex

Morrison said: “It’s a great chance for Ricky, who has been training hard. He’s excited about the prospect of being back in the big time.” TENNIS: Kyle Edmund’s poor form continued with a defeat to Yoshihito Nishioka in the first round of the bett1HULKS Championship in Cologne.

The British No.2 has only won one match since the resumption of the tour in August and was forced to miss the French Open because of further knee problems.

He returned to action indoors in Cologne last week but lost to Lloyd Harris and the second tournament in the German city did not bring a change in fortunes, with Edmund producing an error-strewn display in a 6-4 6-0 loss. GOLF: The 2023 Solheim Cup at Finca Cortesin in Spain will take place from September 18-24, a week before the Ryder Cup in Italy.

Spain is staging the women’s team event for the first time in the tournament’s history.

Ladies European Tour CEO Alexandra Armas said: “We’re excited to be part of a two-week festival of golf.”
