WE CAN ASH IBROX PARTY

- BY SCOTT BURNS

ASH TAYLOR has vowed to end Rangers’ unbeaten record and show Aberdeen can compete with them – not only for 90 minutes but over a whole season.

The Dons head to Ibrox tomorrow looking to show they are a different proposition to the side who were pushed aside on the opening day.

Since then Aberdeen have looked a different proposition and before the international break they moved back into third place.

Taylor accepts that is the minimum requirement for the season because they want to try to push Steven Gerrard’s team and Celtic all the way.

The big defender said: “That has always been our aim since I’ve been at this football club. We want to push them as much as we can.

“We know how good a squad we have and we know on our day that we can give them a good game and win.

“You have to go down there and compete.

“Over the course of the season we will drop points but it is more pleasing to go down there and take the points back up the road.

“That would stand us in good stead. These are the sort of games you are judged on.

“The expectation rises every year and you are judged on games against Celtic and Rangers more significantly.

“The club has done well over the past few seasons.”

Ibrox has been a happy hunting ground for Taylor in his time in Scotland and he hopes that theme continues tomorrow.

The centre half said: “It’s going to be a tough game because they’re an in-form side but we’re in good form ourselves. It’s always a tasty fixture.

“I have a pretty decent record down there. It’s been pleasing going down there and winning.”

The Englishman believes Gerrard’s team have taken massive strides this season and doesn’t think it will be any easier with no fans inside Ibrox.

He said: “They’re a good side. It’s just important that we go down there with the same attitude we had previously.

“We know the fans make a huge difference and it’s normally a full house for these games but it’s still a big game.”
