RIVALS AIM TO TAKETHEFIFTH

- BY MARK WALKER

CELTIC and Hearts will meet for just the fifth time tomorrow in a Scottish Cup Final, with two wins apiece so far. Here’s the story of their showpiece showdowns.

1901: HEARTS 4-3 CELTIC

CELTIC were chasing three Scottish Cups in a row but came unstuck in front of 16,000 at Ibrox, with 5000 coming through on trains from the capital. Bobby WINNERS Hearts celebrate triumph Walker opened the scoring for Hearts before Willie McOustra equalised. An own goal from Bob Davidson and a Charlie Thomson strike put Hearts 3-1 ahead, only for the Hoops to level through Jimmy Quinn and Sammy McMahon. But Mark Bell netted a last-minute winner.

1907: CELTIC 3-0 HEARTS

CELTIC completed the league and cup Double for the first time in their history in front of 50,000 at Hampden Park. They battered holders Hearts from the start,

FINAL SAY Celts stars did the double winning eight corners in the first 20 minutes, but the Tynecastle side weathered the storm until they conceded what was described by local newspapers of the day as a “dubious penalty”. It was converted by Willie Orr and two more goals from Peter Somers saw the trophy go to Celtic Park.

1956: HEARTS 3-1 CELTIC

Haughney

HEARTS won the Scottish Cup for the first time in 50 years against an injury-hit Celtic side who had to play five games in 14 days, in front of an incredible Hampden crowd of 133,583. Ian Crawford had netted a double that had the Jambos two up by 49 minutes before Mike Haughney handed Celtic some hope by making it 2-1. Alfie Conn – whose son of the same name played for both Celtic and Rangers – made sure of the win with 10 minutes to go.
