HAPPY FAMILY NEW YEAR

Zander’s back buzzing

- By sTUaRT baThgaTe

Zander FaGerSOn expected to be frustrated while cooped up at home as he self-isolated.

But the 24-year-old Glasgow ace admits there was a silver lining to the Covid cloud as it meant he could finally spend a full Christmas with his family for a change.

The international prop was one of 20 members of the Warriors squad who had to go into self-isolation after coming into close contact with an Exeter team who later reported positive Covid cases.

Fagerson is training at Scotstoun with his teammates again, their focus now on tomorrow’s Pro14 clash with Edinburgh at Murrayfield.

But he’s also looking back happily to his time off with wife Yasmine and their two children, 19-month-old Iona and eight-month-old Hamish.

He said: “It wasn’t an ideal week off but being with the family and being able to clear my head a bit was good.

“I’ve not had that for the last seven or eight years so it was good being around the kids at Christmas, although Hamish was more interested in eating the wrapping paper!

“Iona loved it. They were both buzzing in the morning and we had a really nice time.

“Christmas with kids is a lot different than before. I loved it.

“It was good getting that break, although I wouldn’t describe being locked in the house as a benefit!

“I got by and got some time to think about stuff.

“I’ll take it as a positive and see how my game goes.

“I’ve done my time now. I enjoyed Christmas with the family and now I’m looking forward to getting back on the pitch.

“I haven’t played rugby for three weeks so I’ve got the excitement back. I’ve had a nice little break, the body’s recovered and I’m ready to go.”

The same cannot be said for co-captain Fraser Brown after the Warriors announced last night that he is expected to be out of action “for at least three months” as he recovers from a neck injury.

That means the 31-yearold hooker is likely to miss the entire Six Nations.

Scrum-half George Horne is to have surgery on a foot injury and will be out of action for up to 12 weeks.

Prop Alex Allan has had an operation on an Achilles injury and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

The news came as Glasgow confirmed full-back Glenn Bryce is leaving at the end of the season to join Californian pro team LA Giltinis.

The 29-year-old has made 32 appearances over two spells at Scotstoun.
