Warriors on bad run but they’re still dangerous

- By DaViD baRNes

HENRY PYRGOS knows from experience Edinburgh shouldn’t read too much into their derby rivals’ poor form.

The scrum-half played eight seasons with Glasgow so is well placed to assess the threat his old club will pose in the 1872 Cup at Murrayfield tomorrow.

Pyrgos said: “Results haven’t gone well for them but they have a lot of dangerous individuals so we prepare like we would any other week. We know the individuals slightly better so we know the threat that’s there.

“We’re going to have to really be on it, especially attacking-wise where they have a lot of good players.

“If we let them get into their game it could be a tough afternoon. We really respect what they do.

“It’s been a tough season for both of us so far but this is obviously a big game and one we want to win. We’re going to have to play really well to do that.”

The Pro14 play-offs are not out of reach yet but with a shortened season, both the Gunners and Warriors need to embark on a winning run soon in order to be in contention at the end of the campaign.

Pyrgos added: “We played OK in Europe just before Christmas and had a good win at Sale a couple of weeks ago, so we want to keep that going.

“It’s a big game and one we definitely want to do well in – and to win – so that’s all we’re thinking of at the moment.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to have been on both sides.

“I know both sides want to go out, play for the fans and get the result.

“It’s a big game for them and for ourselves.”
